Meet Executive Director Peggy Maddox

The “KOL” program began in 2003 when Executive Director Peggy Maddox created the program. It is based on the belief that kids need to reconnect to the land, especially the land in their environment. “Children have an innate need to be in nature and nature needs a new generation to be reconnected to the land and take us to a more sustainable future,” says Ms. Maddox.

Ms. Maddox is well qualified. She taught school for 17 years, was twice named Teacher of the Year for her region and was the Texas Association for Gifted/Talented Teacher of the Year in 2001. She was recognized by the Lt. Governor of Texas for her work as a teacher of young environmentalists and received the Rachel Carson Women in Science Award presented by several Texas environmental organizations. She was nominated for Audubon’s 2015 Texas Women in Conservation Award.
